Tesla + Google Home: connect your Tesla to your smart home

There's no official "Works with Google Home" integration for Tesla vehicles. Google shut down third-party voice apps (Conversational Actions) on June 13, 2023, so Tesla control goes through IFTTT and a third-party service.
Ways to connect
Tessie + IFTTT
Generate a Tessie access token, then build an IFTTT applet: Google Assistant "Activate Scene" > Webhooks "Make a web request" to Tessie's command URL (for example start_climate). IFTTT needs a paid plan, and Tessie is paid too.
TeslaFi + IFTTT
TeslaFi documents the same IFTTT pattern with its own API commands, such as charge_start.
Home Assistant
Home Assistant's Tesla Fleet integration plus Google Assistant support can expose car controls to Google Home. Technical, but no IFTTT needed.
Example routines, step by step
1. Preconditioning by voice
- Google Home app > Settings > Works with Google > IFTTT, then sign in.
- Tessie app > Settings > Developer > Generate Access Token.
- ifttt.com/create > If This: Google Assistant > Activate Scene, name it "climate".
- Then That: Webhooks > Make a web request, GET https://api.tessie.com/VIN/command/start_climate?access_token=TOKEN.
- Say "Hey Google, activate climate".
2. Start or stop charging by voice
- Repeat the applet with the start_charging or stop_charging command.
- Name the scenes "start charging" and "stop charging".
3. Garage on arrival (with limits)
- Add your garage opener to Google Home (for example Meross).
- Google asks for a PIN to open and can't take it inside routines, so automatic arrival opening is unreliable.
- Use the car's HomeLink/Smart Garage (if available), or the opener's own app, for arrival opening.
4. “Hey Google, I’m heading home” routine
- First, build the IFTTT “climate” applet from routine 1.
- Google Home app > Automations > + > Household (or Personal).
- Add starter: When I say to my Google Assistant, and type “I’m heading home”.
- Add action: Adjust home devices > your thermostat > set heat or cool to a comfortable temperature. Add lights or a porch plug if you like.
- Add action: Try adding your own, and type “activate climate” so the IFTTT applet warms the car. Custom commands like this can be unreliable, so test it, and say the command on its own if it doesn’t fire.
- Save, then say “Hey Google, I’m heading home”.
Compatible Matter gear
- Nest Hub (2nd gen) and Nest Hub Max work as Matter hubs and Thread border routers for Google Home. Check Google's Matter hub list.
- Matter plugs and sensors (Kasa, Tapo, Eve) can be shared with Google Home and Apple Home at once.

Kevin Wimer (@kevinace) points out what’s possible with Tesla’s developer API, including Alexa or Google Home voice commands that honk or flash the lights, and garage LEDs that show charging status. It’s a good reminder that the deeper integrations are DIY projects.
A new Google Home user found their Meross garage routine stalled because Google asks for a PIN it can't take mid-routine. A reply describes a workaround with two "Try adding your own" actions, one being the command and one the PIN, but it may not keep working.

In the Google Nest Community, a user found opening the garage in an automation unreliable. They ended up triggering a scene from the opener maker's app instead.
Tessie's help center explains that Google shut down third-party voice apps on June 13, 2023. Tesla voice control in Google Home now goes through a paid IFTTT applet with a Google Assistant trigger and a webhook.
